Othamour Term (extranth)

extranth:

Othamour, Othermour (noun.)

  • Mourin: One who is othamour
  • Amour or Mour: The ‘thing’ that a mourin is bonded with.
  • Mourship: The relationship between a mourin and amour.

A term that describes those who were bestowed a strong bond, protection/guardianship, or platonic/familial affection (or, occasionally, another kind of affection) from a certain thing, such as a concept, object, or character.

Users do not often choose their amours, with it usually being the other way around (though there may be scenarios where amours are chosen by the user), however they may choose to reciprocate the gesture their amour has given them, which may make the bond, and overall othamour identity, stronger. Users may choose to break off this reciprocation, or not accept it at all- though this does not necessarily mean the bond given by their amour will fade.

Users may feel as though they are the family member of their amour, they were created or raised by their amour, or they have been specially chosen by their amour, among other scenarios.

Examples of something similar to othamour may include those who consider themselves “children of the moon/sun,” feeling as though you’re being watched over by the universe/some other entity, and some pop culture examples such as the fears from TMA, the “and the universe said I love you” poem from Minecraft, and figures in mythology who were chosen by gods represented by the sun / music / etc.

Users typically see their amour as having some kind of sentience, whether it be a force, a spirit, or something else, as they were specifically bonded, chosen, created, or otherwise by it. Because of this, many users believe in something like animism (the attribution of a soul to plants, inanimate objects, and natural phenomena.)

Some users may feel a deep understanding of their amour due to their bond, and in some cases may even be able to communicate or work with them, though neither is necessarily the case. Other users may feel as though their amour is still very hard to understand, and cannot directly communicate with them. It is up to the individual relationship.

On it’s own, othamour does not usually have the users identifying as or with their amour. That being said, they will often have a deep understanding of their amour, alongside their bond. However, some users may consider themselves to additionally be otherhearted, otherkind, or something similar, in which case they would identify with or as their amour as well.

Examples of mourin / amour relationships:

  • Feeling like a direct child, sibling, or otherwise of your amour.
  • Having a very strong mutual bond with your amour.
  • Being created by your amour.
  • Feeling as though you were chosen by or are special to your amour.
  • Feeling direct warmth, care, or affection from your amour.
  • Being able to communicate with your amour and/or understand it on an intrinsic level.

Distinction between Othamour and other alterhuman labels:

Unlike other alterhuman labels, othamour can be most distinctly understood through the sentience and reciprocity and the relationship between the mourin and the mour.

Reciprocity: Othamour is centered around how one’s mour is typically sentient, usually choosing the mourin, unless the mourin had seeked them out first. The thing that can create such a strong bond between the mourin and mour is both reciprocating. Mourins may, however, choose not to reciprocate, but this is still an active choice.

The relationship: Othamour is not simply a strong connection, an identifying as, or anything like that. It is a relationship between two sentient parties. A mourship is not like a kintype in that, while a mourin may have a strong reciprocal bond with space, a spacekin individual is space themselves.
