this is the flag for hyacean, a flag for SGA men and man-aligned people along with non-aligned genderless gay people. we’ve come to the conclusion that, while achillean is a useful term, Achilles is not good, and there should be a better word for it, along with a flag that isn’t the exact same as the sapphic flag. yes, this is inspired by sapphic, but not the same thing. It is based on Hyacinth, a gay man who was attracted to Apollo, that had the flower hyacinth made for him by Apollo after his death. this was talked about in a group of people, including MLM, WLW, and sapphic women and non-aligned nb people. people have gotten into confusion that WLW and sapphic are the same thing, along with MLM and achillean. that’s not right, as one only includes people who are that gender or aligns with that gender, the other includes non-aligned genderless lesbians/gay people, or non-aligned genderless people who identify with said label.
they both are useful terms for things that prior to the point of their invention did not have terms to describe them. while they are arguably rooted online (though sapphic i, and many of those i discussed this with, have heard in offline lgbt spaces etc) that doesn’t mean that they are bad or unnecessary, mogai discourse is rooted in harmful levels of inclusion and terms that use symptoms of mental illness/internalised homophobia/transphobia to make identities.
not every internet based/spread identity is ‘mogai’ or every mogai identity harmful. this discussion included wlw and sapphic people given the discourse was also about whether mlm/achillean now hyacean are misogynist/ copying wlw/sapphic. we came to the conclusion that while they are obviously inspired they remain important and useful terms and that mlm/hyacean people do need terminology to refer to themselves.
we felt that having a term to group together non aligned gay people and mlm is something that is necessary and isn’t harmful. of course, no one has to identify with it but the option and the term in itself isn’t harmful.
