Okay, I’m going to coin a term and for once it isn’t going to have anything to do with aromanticism or asexuality at all. The only reason I’m posting it here is because my main is mostly fandom oriented and I want to keep my term creation adventures off of it, and people already know me as a person who makes new terms and flags sometimes. This isn’t going to be a regular thing for this blog but I felt like this was the right place.
Successive: An umbrella term for anyone who believes or feels, for any reason, that they are a partially or wholly different person than they used to be.
This term is designed to be maximally inclusive and can be used by all who see themselves in it.
A person can identify as successive for any number of reasons. Here are some of the many reasons why a person might consider themselves successive:
a trans person might identify as successive because they feel that they’re a different person than they were before they came out/started transitioning
a newly disabled person might identify as successive to represent the effect that their disability has had on their identity
the host of a plural system might identify as successive if they’re not the original host/owner of the body and want to acknowledge the effect that that has on their identity
someone who has gone through a profound spiritual or psychological transformation might identify as successive to represent the divide between who they were and who they consider themselves to be in the present.
I personally consider myself to be successive partially due to trauma,
partially due to spiritual experiences I’ve had, and partially due to
gender reasons.
Successive identity can also sometimes be, but is not necessarily or inherently, a type of alterhuman identity.
