Online Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria

Abbreviation: ORSD, O-RSD, ORS-D

Definition:

This disorder is in which a person experiences intense emotional pain, sensitivity, anxiety, and distress in response to perceived rejection, criticism, and negative-feedback online. This can lead to feelings of low self-esteem, social withdrawal, avoidance of online interactions, and more.

Possible symptoms:

1. Feelings of extreme distress, anxiety, or sadness when receiving negative feedback or criticism online

2. Fear or avoidance of online interactions or social media due to the risk of rejection or negative comments

3. Hypersensitivity to perceived online rejection, such as unfollows, unfriending, or lack of engagement on social media

4. Overthinking or ruminating on past online interactions and perceived rejection or criticism

5. Difficulty accepting constructive criticism or feedback in online settings

6. Obsessive checking of online profiles or social media accounts for signs of rejection or negativity

7. Negative impact on mood, self-esteem, and overall mental health due to the symptoms

9. Impaired functioning in social, academic, or work-related online settings due to the symptoms

10. Difficulty trusting others online and a tendency to assume the worst about their intentions or motives

11. Preoccupation with the fear of rejection or negative evaluation by others online
