Publican is used talk about one’s public identity, aka what they want to pubically present as and be percieved and treated as by others e.g publican gay is somebody who wants to present as,be treated as and percieved as gay.
Publican can be used for what you want to present as, as well as what you currently are presenting as, so you can be publican while still being in the closet.
Most people publican identities will match their internal identities, aka someone who internally feels like a women will likely be a publican women. This isn’t true for everyone though. Some people will present as/want to present as something different to what they internally feel.
Some people will feel dysphoria when not presenting as their publican identity and/or euphoria when presenting as their publican identity but this is not a requirment to use the term.
Publican-Singlet
Someone who wants to present as, be percieved as and treated as a singlet, regardless of whether they internally identify as one.
I am a publican-singlet and I will be changing my presentation to reflect this. I will have more info about my personal expriences with this label and how I’m going to go about presenting under the cut!
