Dermaqueer Term

anon: Somewhere on this page: https://archive.is/ahP7w There are a post about dermanormativity and chromanormativity.

It says dermaqueer is a person with skin-type outside of the skin norms. I guess -queer is for persons with identities which are outside the norms and/or whose bodies are also outside the norms. Not the best wording for the last sentence, I think you got what I mean. Feels like an early RQ thing. Queer = Non-Normative

transidresource:

Oh yeah definitely. Queer as a suffix to denote non-normativity outside of gender/attraction/behavior etc is nowhere near new.

Seeing chroma/dermapunk makes me think of something similar regarding -punk terms- Something about how queer and punk terminology are two sides of the same coin.

Text from the referenced post (from vohstrosia):

“Dermanormativity

Is a range of social, cultural, institutional norms that consider certains skin-types as superior, more valid to others. Usually in western societies white young skins.

Dermanormativity is related to ableism, racism, ageism and aldernicmisia.

Dermaqueer: an individual with a skin-type that is outside of skin-norms (ex: transparent skins, purple skins, skins with scars, burned skins, old skins, iron skins, luminous skins, liquid skins etc)

Dermapunk: an identity against dermanormativity.

Chromanormativity

Chromanormativity in the context of dermanormativity refers specifically to skin-color, but it can also be used for eye-color, hair-color, tongue-color etc.

Chromanormativity is a collection of social, cultural, institutional norms that consider certains skins-colors as superior, more valid to others. Usually in western societies white skins. Chromanormativity is related to ableism, racism and aldernicmisia.

Chromaqueer: an individual with a skin-color that is outside of skin-color norms. (Ex: blue skin, yellow skin, green skin, black skins in white societies etc)

Chromapunk: an identity against chromanormativity (and dermanormativity).

Dermanormativity and chromanormativity are sub-types of somanormativity.

Derma means skin in greec and chroma means color in greec.”
