Ghost Overexposure Syndrome Flag (kowalapantheon)

New Xenomalady!

So a bit ago w4rq33r-ir1 coined translavendertownsyndrome based on the creepypasta.

This post jelped bring back some old kin memories of mine. I had a past life inside the pokemon universe called Ava and there was an in-universe lavender town syndrome! It is very different to the creepypasta version, only really sharing a name. The name was later updated after case were found outside of Lavender Town so I will be using the up dated name to avoid confusion with the creepypasta.

Ghost Overexposure Syndrome (GOS)

A xenomalady that affects those that have been exposed to large quantites of ghost type pokemon over an extended period of time without taking the proper precautions. There is no known cure but removing all contact with ghost type pokemon has been known to lessen symptoms.

Symptoms include:

  • Halluctions
  • Hearing voices that the indvidual believes tell them important messages.
  • A fancistion with and romanticisan of death
  • Romantic Necrophilia
  • A desire to die in a “beatiful way”. This does not seem to be motivated by depression or feelings of worthlessness.
  • Hyperempathy
  • A strong preference to only socialise with other indviduals with GOS. If they become attached to someone who does not have GOS, they will often encourage that person to develop it.
  • A romanticisian of GOS and possibly of other disorders, diseases or disabilities an indvidual has.
  • A strong desire to make their GOS worse.
  • Senstivity to light
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Nocturnal sleep schedule
  • A darkening of skin colour, hair colour and eye colour

A bit of history I remember about GOS

This syndrome was first discovered in Lavender Town and was at first thought to be a social contagian until cases were discovered outside Lavender Town. Most of those living in Lavender Town have GOS. This is thought to be because of the unique traditions Lavender Town had surrounding death. Most places would build graveyards in less populated areas, spread out over a large suface area and regularly employ exorcists to control populations of ghost type pokemon.

Lavender Town was different though, it placed its graveyard in the middle of town in an enclosed area and actively encourged the breeding of ghost types that lived there. The residents of Lavender Town believed that the living and dead should stay closely connected. A side affect of this was that a large amount of untrained people spent large amounts of time around ghost types.

When training to work with ghost types, most would practioners start slowly, exposing themselves to small amounts of ghosts for short periods of time and slowly building up. They also practice many forms of meditation and mindfullness to help protect their mind. These precautions stop the development of GOS in most cases.

Other practioners will forgo these procedures altogether, believing that developing GOS is a key part of interacting with ghost types.
