What is ipseity?
ipseity (n.) – “personal identity, individuality, selfhood,” 1650s, from Latin ipse “self” + -ity “quality of being”
I am proposing a category of identities called ipseities: labels that encompass the entire self, rather than solely referring to one’s gender, age, species, or other subidentities, though subidentities can easily be directly extrapolated from ipseities by changing the suffix.
Maybe you identify as a certain xenogender, for example, but you feel that its concept makes up more of your identity than just gender. Perhaps this would be better classified as an ipseity.
Ipseic terms, flags, and symbols are designed to be fluid, inclusive, and free-use. Individual labels are generally given the suffix “-seity,” though “-eity” or “-ity” can also be used.
