Trying to draw a line between transabled folk and people with BIID is… not really a helpful thing to do, imo. It’s also a ridiculous thing to do because, if what I was told was correct, transabled was literally coined by a person with BIID so they could have terms they felt more comfortable with.
It’s also frustrating because BIID isn’t the only condition that can cause a person distress about not having certain disorders or the only condition that would make a person identify as transabled.
Anything from intense health anxiety to Munchausen’s syndrome to trauma could make a person identify as transabled.
Anti-transableds like to preach about how having a BIID is the only valid reason to identify as transabled and that everyone else must be ableist, but it just completely ignores how complex mental health can be.
