FED is a MUD (medically unrecognized disorder). FED stands for Fluctuating Eating Disorder.
Symptoms and signs of FED are:
Has episodes for weeks or months at a time where one will have symptoms of either Bulimia Nervosa or Anorexia Nervosa. Then, the patient will experience weeks or months in which they have no disordered eating habits and little to no thoughts about it.
In weeks or months during the first part of the cycle, the patient loses a lot of weight relatively quickly. Then, they may or may not gain it back during the second part of the cycle. The patient’s weight probably often fluctuates.
The patient has weeks or months where they display common signs of Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa. (I know this is sort of repeated. I think it’s important to differentiate between signs and symptoms.)
The cycle must happen and continue for at least 6 months to be considered FED.
