What is Liminaldom?

“Liminaldom” is a name for the phenomenon of a deep, intense, and/or integral connection to anything considered “liminal”. When used in a sentence, “Liminaldom” can be compared to the words “freedom” or “stardom”.

In Liminaldom terms, “liminal” can be defined as “A particular aesthetic or state of being that often evokes intense and visceral feelings of comfort, nostalgia, wonder, dread, uncanniness, uneasiness, and ominousness”, among others. This feeling is often associated with liminal spaces.

This feeling is often unique and can be experienced differently by different people and beings. The way someone experiences this feeling can be described as their own unique “liminousity”, or “one’s own unique and personal connection to liminal things”.

Someone who experiences liminousity or identifies under a Liminaldom identitiy may call themselves “liminous” or a “liminist”.

Typicallous, Liminormative, and Nonambious Terms

Someone who is not liminous can be called “typicallous” or a “typicallist”. This means they do not experience liminousity, and in most cases do not identify under a Liminaldom identity.

Someone who feels that they are simultaneously liminous and typicallous, for any reason, may refer to themselves as a “liminorm” or “liminormative”.

Someone who feels that they are neither liminous nor typicallous, for any reason, may call themselves “nonambious” or a “nonambist”.

Aditionally, someone who feels that they are nonambious may also have some (usually weaker) degree of liminousity, typicallousity, or liminormativitiy along side them. This is known as a “nonambranch”. Someone who has a nonambranch may call themselves “nonambranchous” or a “nonambranchist”.

Specific Liminous Terms:

There are two types of microlabels when it comes to liminousity: origin identities and identity describers.

Origin identities refer to the type of thing that gives someone their liminousity. Their suffix is -ous. [To see examples of origin identities and how they are used as words, please see the designated section of the carrd.]

Identity describers are terms that refer to the type of liminousity one experiences. Their suffix is -liminal. [To see examples of identity describers and how they are used as words, please see the designated section of the carrd.]

Backroomian and Backroomist Terms:

Someone who identifies as, and/or takes on the role of, anything from the backrooms may call themselves a backroomian.

Someone who, to some degree, believes in the backrooms (or some aspect of it) may call themselves a backroomist. They may or may not have a set of tenets associated with this belief.

For examples of backroomian and backroomist identities, please see the designated section of the carrd.”
