Extranthrope Flag (extranth)

“Extranthrope.

noun. A nonhuman member in a multiple system. Coined with those in mind who are nonhuman but don’t identify as otherkin and want to be more specific in the origin of their nonhumanity; compare to fictive and factive.

Can be shortened to “extranth.”

Usage examples:

“I’m an extranthrope”
“I’m an extranth”
“I’m an extranthropic angel”

“I’m an angel extranthrope/extranth.”

This may or may not catch on with others, and that’s a-okay! If you feel like it’s a useful term, feel free to reblog/use/whatever! If not, you do you! I’ve pitched it in a few places already so I figured I’d throw a line out on Tumblr, too.”

“Extranth[rope] Flag & Expansion of The Term

I wanted to make a proper flag for extranths (nonhuman system members), but I couldn’t find one, so I decided to make one!

  • The outer layer represents someone’s outward identity/identity not connected to being an extranth
  • The middle layer represents someone’s personal beliefs and experiences
  • The innermost layer represents someone’s core identity
  • The X represents a general disconnect from humanity

While making this flag, I realized that I wanted to expand a bit on the existing term. Extranth is a very nice label on it’s own, and I think that with some tweaking it can be used to better describe my experiences.
[X]-tranth. Things like spacetranth, dragontranth, and voidtranth. A form of alterhumanity that is specifically tied to a system member being nonhuman. It’s essentially a way to elaborate what sort of extranth you are, if you want to. “Extranthropic [x term]” is already something in use, but as a ND person I would prefer something shorter.

It is not the same as being otherkin, because it is inherently tied to being a nonhuman headmate.

Some terms I’d been thinking of:

  • Subtranth: A subsystem that is the same kind of extranth.
  • Systranth: A system that is the same kind of extranth.
  • Extranthic: An adjective for extranth. Can be added to the end of any -tranth word when needed. It’s a shorter form of extranthropic, ex: An extranthic person.
  • Polytranth: Someone who has multiple extranthic identities, such as being voidtranth, spacetranth, and dragontranth. Can also be called polyextranth.”

“Extranthrope flag & symbol (a new one!)

Definition: A nonhuman member in a system. Coined by neutrois-lesbadger here.

—

So if you’ve been following this blog for a long time, you might know that quite a while back, I made a flag for the term extranthrope. At the time, I was really proud of it, and I by no means discourage liking it.

But, my flag and symbol making abilities have changed a lot since then. And I haven’t been satisfied with the job I did on it. It doesn’t look as inspired as I would like, and you can definitely tell it was one of my first flags. The homage and respect towards the original term was also far more naïve, and I’ve grown less comfortable with it over time.

Because of that, I’ve decided to make this. It’s a newer rendition of the same idea, for the same term, but with new polish, and a new symbol to boot. I love the idea of an X being one of the symbols for extranths (verbal stimming makes the ex- part of the name really pop out for me) so I decided to rework what was once just an X into an X surrounded by a diamond.

The flag is supposed to represent the idea of someone’s internal nonhumanity from within their system, with the purple shades representing the system’s body, as well as the extranths’ external experiences. The inner green represents ones internal nonhumanity, and being a nonhuman member of a system.

The symbol largely represents the same thing; the outside diamond represents the body, while the X represents the internal nonhumanity. Someone could also see the inner stripe and X as representing their nonhuman body within the system, existing separately from both the system’s body and mind. The stripe and symbol are meant to be broad, because there’s a lot of reasons and experiences that can go into being an extranth.

If you aren’t aware of what an extranthrope is, please read the coining post. This isn’t my term, and I should not be credited for making it. It’s just an identity I find very important to me, so I enjoy creating things I can use to represent that!”
