Context:

Lykoi Lesbian Flag:

From the MOGAI Wiki, “Lykoi lesbian was coined by wiki user Wemrotung on May 31, 2021. Wemrotung, a lesbivincian butchwink, wanted their own term and flag for lesbians and sapphics who support and include lesbians with uncommon or complex definitions of lesbianhood, as well as those who experience uncommon and complex versions of lesbianhood themselves.”

From the LGBT Wiki, “The lykoi lesbian flag design was created by the same anonymous wiki user on May 31, 2021.

The color associations are as follows: Raspberry represents gender non-conforming and pronoun non-conforming lesbians, such as he/him and they/them lesbians, as well as complex or non-normative connections to womanhood.

Pink represents sapphic love, sex, attraction, and relationships. Yellow represents community and inclusion. White represents transgender, non-binary, and intersex lesbians. Blue represents lesbian history, culture, and solidarity with the rest of the LGBTQ+ community. Purple represents m-spec lesbians. Dark purple represents a-spec lesbians.

The next day, June 1, 2021, the lykoi lesbian symbol was designed, once again by this anonymous wiki user. The symbol is a lykoi with a soft expression and heart eyebrows markings.”

Sunset Lesbian Flag:

From the MOGAI Wiki, “Emily Gwen mixed the orange butch and lipstick lesbian flags together on June 2nd, 2018, creating the “sunset lesbian flag”.

“Honestly my ideal lesbian pride flag would be the pink one and the orange one flowing into each other. Like the top half of the pink one and the bottom half of the orange half. Or the orange on top, just to shake things up and to subvert the idea that femininity should come first.

And the meanings (in no particular order, idk) should be: butch lesbians, femme lesbians, trans/nb lesbians, love, community, independence, serenity” (Emily Gwen, 2018)

Gwen changed the meaning of the flag six days later. The meanings, from top to bottom, are as follows:

gender non conformity: how we don’t conform to traditional gender standards obv
independence: our independence individually and from men (our ability to look after ourselves and each other)
community; speaks for itself
unique relationships to womanhood: how we are connected to womanhood in our own unique ways… emcompasses trans/nb lesbian experiences, butch/femme experiences with womanhood, is slightly different from gnc because it’s about how we DO relate to womanhood rather than how we do NOT
serenity and peace: what every lesbian deserves, and personally how I feel when I’m with a woman
love and sex: speaks for itself
femininity: speaks for itself” (Emily Gwen, 2018)
