When one has a specfic word (or words) that they spell in a different way than normal. Similar to typing quirk but only applies to a single word (or small number of words) rather than ones entire typing style.
For example I spell kowala with a w even tho the “proper” way to spell it is with no w.
Like typing quirks, the reason behind a spelling quirk can greatly differ. It could be a simple prefrence/for fun, it could be used to affirm an identity, it could be connected to some form of disorder, etc. There can also be variation in how hard it is to stop using a spelling quirk.
For me, I’m not entirely sure what orginally caused my spelling quirk but I continue to follow it out of compulsion and will become panicked and frustated if I attempt to spell kowala “properly”.
Projected Spelling Quirk
When somebody in some way projects their spelling quirk onto others.
This includes:
Wanting others to use their spelling quirk
Seeing others as already using their spelling quirk
Beliving their spelling to actually be the “proper” spelling or in some way better than the “proper” spelling
etc
A Projected Spelling Quirk can greatly vary in their reasoning. It could be a simple prefrence/for fun, it could be used to affirm an identity, it could be connected to some form of disorder, etc. The ability to tolerate seeing their spelling quirk not be used by others can also differ.
For me, I get mildly uncomfortable whenever I see kowala spelt without the w. I prefer people to use the with w spelling when talking to me but I don’t require it. I do require it tho if your specfically refering to my name or identity e.g if your saying “Fae’s name is Kowala and fae is a kowala therian” then I need the with w spelling. I do also believe my spelling to be superior.
Projected Typing Quirk
Same as projected spelling quirk but with a typing quirk instead.
