Possesive Love Disorder is an unrecognized mental disorder, which causes person to be insanely in love with one person to the point it feels like they want to “possess them”
This condition overlaps with traits found in obsessive love, attachment disorders, borderline personality disorder, and even delusional jealousy (Othello syndrome)
POSSIBLE CAUSES :
• Not receiving enough love during childhood
• Losing one ( or both ) parents and not receiving love
• Romantic Idealization or Obsession
• Lack of Emotional Regulation Skills
• Past Betrayals or Abandonment
• Low Self-Esteem
• Personality Disorders
SYMPTOMS
1. Obsessive Thoughts About the Person
Constant preoccupation with the partner’s whereabouts, actions, and intentions.
2. Extreme Jealousy
Unfounded suspicions of infidelity or betrayal.
Jealousy even over harmless interactions.
3. Controlling Behavior
Attempts to limit the partner’s interactions with others.
Monitoring phones, social media, or location.
4. Fear of Abandonment
Intense anxiety at the thought of separation.
Desperate attempts to avoid rejection.
5. Emotional Manipulation
Guilt-tripping, emotional blackmail, or threats to make the person stay.
6. Dependency
Feeling like life is meaningless or unbearable without the other person.
Low sense of self without the relationship.
7. Possessiveness
Viewing the partner as property or something to be “owned.”
Referring to the partner as “mine” in a literal, not romantic, way.
8. Aggressive or Violent Outbursts
When the individual feels their control is being threatened.
9. Stalking or Surveillance-Like Behavior
Following the person or tracking them without consent.
10. Neglect of Other Relationships and Responsibilities
Abandoning friends, work, or hobbies for the sake of monitoring or being near the partner.
