Text below the cut:

“the green was taken from the og flag, representing the ʻĀina, fading into a blue to represent the islands and their rich kai. The red was also taken from the og flag, representing the blood of the people. Here, it fades to a more purple color to represent the bloody history, yes, but also the fact that we’re still here and cannot be erased from history no matter how hard they try. The purple also represents the night sky, the moons in the sky represent the importance of the moon in hawaiian culture, especially with the moon calender, also to show the innovations of the hawaiian people, alongside to show how times will change but the heart of the people will stay. The 7 moons + the sun in the front are meant to represent the 8 main islands of hawaii. the yellow was from the og flag, which represented the feathers used in the aliʻi’s sacred capes. I also used it for the sun here, because the sun is where all life, all hā, originates. The orange in the center is to represent the core of the people. I took the original symbol from the original flag, the kahili and paddles, as its an important symbol for kanaka maoli.”
