(literally they can use like. OFAB/OMAB (observed female/male at birth) or TMDP/TWDP. literally anything else. I’ve even seen them using terms that were literally used to clearly state IGM (SAGAB, I think there was one along the lines of forcefully assigned, and many others)).

so like. intersexism of the fact intersex people can’t have our own thing to describe traumatic experiences that are specifically from intersexism & IGM

co-opting intersex exclusive language is intersexism. especially later terms like CAGAB or SAGAB that were coined by intersex community to describe the experience of IGM specifically and distinguish it from observing.

i don’t know what i think about AGAB specifically. it wasn’t coined by intersex community, it was coined by doctors. also i understand that starting to use it helped to highlight how people are assigned some gender and sex role from the very birth. people who started to use it shouldn’t erase intersex experiences. this part is definitely intersexist. but i understand the social dynamic they tried to refer. and i don’t feel that “observed at birth” represents the coercive and ignorant nature of birth assignment. they don’t actually observe all sex traits, they look at genitals and assume everything else. and then push gender roles and sex traits expectations on the person. maybe it would be better if they coined a different term. but idk.

but with CAGAB / SAGAB / etc, there’s no excuses. the acronyms include direct mention of igm (coercively/correctively or surgically) and are coined specifically to highlight the difference between social expectations and physical interventions in one’s body. perisex people have to either ignore this connotation or redefine the acronym (like self-assigned instead of surgically assigned, which is vile).

intersex people need our own language to describe our specific experience. stop co-opting it.

i haven’t been able to find any evidence C-AGAB was coined by the intersex community—instead theres quite a few mentions of it around 2010 online from trans people, not mentioning intersexuality at all. i believe this is a term our communities actually shared from the start, and drawing attention to the coercive nature of AGAB.

secondly, and this is a wild thing to say, but i actually coined self assigned gender at birth in 2022 as an intersex person. i had never heard surgical assigned gender at birth, and i am an IGM victim, and was not recoining this term to be open to perisex people.
