There’s not a lot of info out there about otherfix as an identity. I didn’t coin it, but I can’t find whoever did, nor a flag or concrete definition. I first found it on the lgbta wiki, and that’s the only place I’ve ever seen it. So consider this a recoining post.
Otherfix: an alterhuman identity caused by, influenced by, or connected to a hyperfixation. Can be either an identify with, or an identify as identity. The thing identified with/as may be referred to as a fixtype.
Can be used in conjunction with other identities (ie: “I’m an otherfix therian”, “my hearttype, elves, is also a fixtype”), or on its own.
Personally, I consider my catness to have developed over time, at least partially due to a hyperfixation on Warrior Cats in elementary school and a more recent hyperfixation also involving cats. While I don’t think this is the only reason for my alterhuman identity, it had a large influence; at the very least, I figured it out because of those hyperfixations.
Here’s my design for a flag (subject to change, but I like it for now):
I have ADHD, but I know other conditions can also cause hyperfixations, so I tried to steer away from ADHD symbolism. (The colors are inspired by various ADHD flags I’ve seen, but not directly taken from them. The alterhuman flag also influenced the colors.)
The colors don’t have any particular symbolism (I have some ideas but I wanna see what any other otherfix ppl (if yall exist) think before finalizing it.)
The dandelion symbol is because when you blow away their seeds, they could take root anywhere, and stay there for as long as they can. Dandelions are hard to get rid of, and although they might be annoying or a nuisance, they’re also really pretty, and not necessarily something you have to uproot. They can be fleeting, or they can take root for years.
