Pavocholia: A gender related to melancholy, dulled-out cool colors, running mascara and/or eyeliner, saudade, staying up late to avoid having to stop distracting oneself and having to face one’s emotions, charcoal grey eyeliner, and late nights. It’s related to dark, abandoned city streets with occasional taxies passing by and crumpled posters rolling down the sidewalks, which are covered with discarded, sometimes broken, beer bottles, cigarette butts, and crumpled pieces of paper with messily written phone numbers on them.
It’s also related to the fear that if you faced your emotions, they would crush you/eat you alive, that no one will ever truly love you, and that you’ll die surrounded by people putting on a front and not anyone who actually cares about you.
The name comes from a mix of pavo from pavor (the Interlingua word for fear), chol(ia) from melancholia, and ia from saudania
